Aquamarine

March 15, 2023 - Swa Diamonds

Aquamarine is a beautiful gemstone that is associated with the month of March. It has been used in jewelry and other decorative items for centuries due to its unique color and properties. Aquamarine rings, pendants, and earrings are special birthday gifts for those born in march. Aquamarine has many unique characteristics that make it a desirable gemstone, including its hardness, durability, and luster. It also has a wide range of colors from light blue to deep blue-green. In addition to its beauty, aquamarine is believed to have healing properties that can help reduce stress and anxiety.

Once the aquamarine stone was known as seamen’s gemstone, they wore it during sea voyages for protection and to be a fearless mind with no anxieties. The name aquamarine comes from the Latin words ‘aqua’, which means water, and ‘marina’, which means sea. The color of the aquamarine stone is similar to the sea color.

  • Transparency

Aquamarine has a high degree of transparency, which makes it more beautiful. The translucent ones are used as jewellery by being cut into cabochons. In transparent aquamarine stones, minute inclusions will be visible to the naked eye if any are present. Inclusions rarely occur in this stone.

  • Durability

The hardness of aquamarine ranges from 7.5 to 8 on the Moh's scale. In terms of Moh's hardness scale, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, topaz, and chrysoberyl all have a harder hardness than aquamarine stones. A material's hardness indicates how resistant it is to scratching. According to Moh’s scale, Aquamarine is a durable stone, but it is treated as brittle.

  • Color

Aquamarine is the green-blue to blue variety of beryl mineral and emerald is the green-blue to green variety of mineral beryl. Pure beryl is colorless when it interconnects with iron turned to blue, forming aquamarine stones. Aquamarine stones with rich blue color are rare and more expensive. Heat treatment can change the color of a material. The green color removes from the aquamarine through heat treatment, which makes aquamarine pure blue.

  • Size

Aquamarines are available in larger sizes, there is no increase in price when increasing the size of the stone. Aquamarine has more than  25 carats at a low price because setting and wearing that size can be difficult. It can be cut into different shapes and sizes.

  • Sources

Brazil is one of the leading aquamarine sources in the world. Russia, Madagascar, Kenya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, and the United States are the sources of Aquamarine.

  • Safety & Care

Aquamarine is a beautiful semi-precious stone, but it requires some special care to maintain its beauty and durability. The best way to protect and care for aquamarine jewellery is to keep away from extreme heat and pressure variations that may badly affect the nature of the stone. This jewellery can be cleaned with ultrasonic cleaners from a jewellery expert, but if any inclusions in the stone, then the chance of increasing inclusion is more. Daily used aquamarine stone must be cleaned from home by using lukewarm water and mild shampoo. Furthermore, this jewellery must store separately to avoid scratches from the stones like diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.

Its calming energy can help bring clarity and balance to life. For these reasons, aquamarine is an excellent choice for jewelry or as a gift for someone special in your life, who was born in March. Aquamarine is a stunning gemstone that has been prized for centuries. It has a beautiful blue-green hue that is said to evoke the beauty of the sea, and it has been associated with courage, protection, and good luck. Aquamarine is also believed to have powerful healing properties and can be used in meditation practices. This precious stone is sure to add a touch of elegance and beauty to any jewelry collection.
